God’s Angel to Prepare the Way

Ex 23:20 “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared…”  (NIV)

God communicated to Moses that He had prepared their future. That future was unfolded before the eyes of the Israelites as Joshua took Moses’ place and began their journey across the river and on to Jericho. (Josh.5:13ff)  The Angel of the Lord was not to be taken lightly or trifled with.

The angel’s words were headed, the walls fell, the city sacked, God’s preparations proved true. (God is always true!) Isaiah in speaking of the past history of his own people and God’s provisions for them says - Isa 63:9  In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them; in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bore them, and carried them all the days of old. (MKJV)

God is not bound in time like all of creation is, when He prepares a future it is a sure thing, an absolute thing. What was God’s reason for taking care of Israel all those years? Malachi 2:15 speaking prophetically indicates that God was working out what He had prepared for their future. He was safeguarding the “Holy Seed” that was to come, that same Holy Seed was the singular seed promised to Abraham. That is the very seed that was to be the blessing for all humanity or so Paul gave explanation for it to the Galatian Church. (Gal.3:16-19)

Who can expect to stop what God has prepared to do? No one! (Isa.14:24, 27) What God planned and purposed to accomplish He has done in and through His Son Jesus. (Eph.1:9-14) The approach of Jesus’ birth was planned before creation and so was the Heralder of His presence.

Malachi 3:1 speaks of one who would come to clear the way, to prepare the road, for the Holy One of God. The Angel who appeared to Zacharias told him that his son John was to be the fulfillment of those very words. (Luke 1:11-17; 66-80) God works His plans to completion. (you can count that)

As God has demonstrated His abilities and His faithfulness to complete His plans, it is good for each of us to come to better understand that we too have been prepared for. He has chosen you for His own purpose and glory. (see 1Cor.2:9-16; Eph.2:10; 2Tim.2:20-21)

John tells us in Rev.4:11 that we were created by God and exist for His pleasure – He takes pleasure in our doing what He has prepared for us to do. What His Spirit burdens your heart to do, do!
