“There’s Wideness in God’sMercy

(by Fredrick W Faber)

There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, Like the wideness of the sea;

There’s a kindness in His justice, Which is more than liberty.

There is welcome for the sinner, And more grace for good;

There is mercy with the Savior; There is healing in His blood.

For the love of God is broader, Than the measure of man’s mind;

And the heart of the Eternal is more wonderfully kind.

If our love were but more simple, We should take Him at His word,

And our lives would be all sunshine in the sweetness of our Lord.

David understood who God was better than most. This is shown clearly by his words in - PS 62:1 My soul finds rest in God alone;  my salvation comes from him. 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. What David tells us is true in life and in death.

          In all of life there many choices a person must make each may bring peril or prosperity. Out of all possible choices for humanity to make none will bring greater blessing than  choosing God as Lord and the Almighty as our Father. He is the sustainer, it is He whom we find abundantly able. What He spoke to Isaiah can be true for any one of us. ISA 46:4 Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. (the redeemed are the rescued – Col.1:13)

          Moses was a man with some incredible choices laid before. We can learn much from how he worked through those choices. He chose the truth of who he was rather than pretend to be Prince of Egypt for the sake of glory and riches. He chose God and His people as better. (Heb.11:24-27) He saw God as real and Egypt as tinsel, glit and glitter.

          Isaiah too knew the value of being in relationship with God.  ISA 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.

  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

This was God’s promise to Isaiah and is true for us as well. ISA 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. 11 "All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced;

  those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. 12 Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them.

  Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. 13 For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

          This God of promise, This God of hope will be for each and every one of us – The God of mercy and grace or the God wrath and judgment. Life is short, David testifies that this also is true. – (see Psalm 90:1-12) It is a good thing to have a heart that has been taught by God, for a heart schooled in heavenly wisdom. God, who is known by many names has a name that is filled with mercy. (see Ex.33:19, 34:5-7)

          David new this God who is “Mercy.” -  (Ps.103) Here is the 1st step in wisdom – Learn from the God who Is. (Ps.39:4-8) Wisdom declares this truth - PS 89:48 What man can live and not see death, or save himself from the power of the grave n? Therefore, be wise and choose the Lord of Mercy for His mercy endures for ever as do His children. (Jn.5:24-25)                                        [9-13-2009 Metz]
